The sensitivity and delay controls work perfectly thanks to the 4 arc sensors. Tacking is precise and the auto-darkening transition is seamless.

There is a long delay after carbon arcing that gives the carbon glow time to dim down. Perfect when you’re trying to trigger a weld fast. The hood has impressive battery capacity with replaceable lithium batteries and solar backup.

Compared to competitors in the same range like the ESAB, the Lincoln is a lot more rugged. The ESAB takes the cake for TIG, but the Viking 3350 reigns supreme everywhere else. It’s my go-to for MIG and stick work.

For a hobby welder, this is one of the best auto-darkening helmets out there. Pre-weld visibility is improved and you get better arc control overall. It’s perfect for MIG work and the weight is very comfortable.

Adjusting the helmet between welds is convenient and the quality compares well to Miller hoods. All the features are easy to use, and the solar-powered assist with a replaceable lithium battery is a nice touch.

The main drawback is that it only has 2 arc sensors. In cramped spaces, those sensors can get blocked and the helmet won’t darken. For the price, I’d expect at least 3 sensors. Also, it’s a bit too lightweight to feel truly rugged.

If you weld a few times a month, this helmet will serve you well. You’re paying more than budget competition, but you get better optical clarity and a more dependable auto-darkening filter. It’s the kind of helmet that makes learning easier because you can actually see what you’re doing.

It’s not rugged, but it’s lightweight enough that it won’t weigh on your head. At 17 oz it’s the lightest on this list, and it actually looks solid for the weight. The field of view isn’t huge, but it’s more than enough for most hobby work.
